A Pātaka Kai or open street pantry, for the sharing of fresh produce and other food, has been in place for over a year now at 630 Featherston Street, Terrace End, opposite Kauri Health Centre. Locals leave what they can, and take what they need. Freyberg High School student Sarah Hughes is setting up another one, in Fitzroy Street, Roslyn, near the Napier Road intersection, outside Memorial Park. Read the newspaper article here.
There are 117 pantries operating around New Zealand, and 53 under construction. Find out more at the Pātaka Kai website.
